VARIEGATED

I climbed a mountain
The sky fairywren blue
Maybe it would be better
In that other variegated hue

When autumn finally comes
My feathers will molt back
To the form I don't eschew

Thirty one odd years
And I never saw my beauty
All the science and tools
Maybe I'll become somebody

I wish I were a bird
The kind most evergreen
I scream from my mind
Yet only the pines heard

And yet they just are
As this peak simply is
I should have realized
It's all merely this

I climbed a mountain
The sky now fairywren grey
I like it much better
In this more overcast hue
